Many families, regardless of income, find themselves with too much month left at the end of their money. Many folks start to think about retirement when they hit their forties or fifties. Then they start looking for information on investing and retirement planning. While that?s not a bad thing, the foundation for retirement planning is tracking your expenses and developing and following a spending plan ? the earlier, the better. If you need some help with these basics, you?re invited to attend the next series of ?Get the Money Monkey Off Your Back!? series.
Money Monkey will be offered on Thursdays, August 23 through September 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. at ACIM, 634 Roxboro Road, Oxford.
Who is this series for? Anyone of any income level who wants to take control of their spending so they can pay their bills on time and save some money, too. It?s for anyone who has said, ?Some day I?ll get control of my spending?. One past participant wrote:? ?You really can over-spend and do not even know how or why you did it until your money is all gone.?
There is no sharing of personal financial information. However, participants will have the option of working during one session one-on-one privately with a volunteer who assists in budget development. Included in this free series are all classes with money management materials, snacks, and prizes for attendance. There will be no childcare provided, but parents may bring interested children over age 12.
Participants will:
- Identify their values about money and the way they spend;
- Learn to prioritize spending;
- Learn to set up and stick with a spending plan;
- Set up a financial record-keeping system;
- Find ways to save money for emergencies and pay off small amounts of debt;
- Learn to save money at the grocery store.
Area Congregations in Ministry and the North Carolina Cooperative Extension-Granville County Center are sponsoring the series. For more information or to register by August 20, call ACIM at 919-690-0961 or the Granville County Extension Center at 919-603-1350.
